The fig is a plant of subtropical temperate climates, belonging to the family Moraceae. It is native of Asia. It has always been representative of one of the most important cultivation in the Apulian agricultural panorama, at the third position after the olive tree and the vine. The plants are divided between two types: the unifere or fico selvatico, which produce the fruit only once a year, and the bifere or fico domestic, which are fruitful twice a year. There are indeed lots of local varieties and they differ due to shape, dimension, color, pulp, taste and maturation period. The wealth of calcium, vitamins and minerals, makes the fig be an energizing nutrient.
